PNP to help MMDA, LTO run after drunk drivers

MANILA: The Philippine National Police (PNP) said Tuesday it would assist personnel of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and Land Transportation Office (LTO) in enforcing traffic rules and in going after drunk drivers amid Christmas gatherings and parties.   In a statement, PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. urged motorists not to “drink and drive” to avoid road accidents.   “The PNP is maximizing efforts to further reduce Public Safety Indicators of Total Crime Incidents by initiating measures to reduce vehicular accidents that may result in homicide, physical injury, and damage to property,” Azurin said.   Republic Act (RA)

5 cops in missing Laguna ‘sabungero’ case axed: PNP

MANILA: Five police officers who were involved in the case of a missing online cockfighting master agent in Laguna last year have been dismissed from the service, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Tuesday.   PNP chief Gen. DOLE’s employment facilitation programs benefit 4.4M workers

MANILA: The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has reported that its employment facilitation programs assisted some 4.4 million job seekers, including employees looking for better work opportunities this year.   In a statement Tuesday, the agency said training and upgrading skills of workers for local and international jobs have been provided under different programs.   Among them were the 6,627 seafarers who finished the Maritime Training Skills Competency of the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP), the sole government maritime research center.   The NMP provides skills and competency training to Filipino seafarers to increase their acceptability for employment in the

3 officials get new assignments in latest PNP revamp

MANILA: Three ranking police officials were included in the latest reorganization of the Philippine National Police (PNP).   In an order dated Dec. 19, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr., designated Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO 7) chief, Brig. Gen. Roderick Alba, as the deputy chief of the Directorate for Human Resource and Doctrine Development (DHRDD) in Camp Crame, Quezon City.   Alba replaced DHRDD director Brig. Gen. Alexander Tagum, who will be headed to PRO 11 (Davao Region) while Brig. Gen. Fornaleza Bearis from PRO 3 (Central Luzon) will take over as PRO 7 director.  

2 overstaying foreigners nabbed in NCR

MANILA: Two foreigners who were recently arrested are facing deportation for violating the country’s immigration laws, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported on Tuesday.   In a report, the bureau’s Intelligence Division identified the erring foreigners as 37-year-old Nigerian national Ikechukwu John Shedrack and 31-year-old South Korean national Dae Heom Kwon.   The Nigerian was arrested on December 12 outside the Mandaluyong City Hall of Justice where he had just attended a court hearing on his case.   On the other hand, the South Korean was nabbed the next day inside a bar along Kamias Road in Quezon City.  

N. Samar exec condemns NPA’s landmine attack vs. soldiers
