131K cops fully vaxxed vs. Covid-19

Nearly 58 percent or 131,326 personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said Friday.

Citing the latest data, Eleazar said some 80,809 personnel or about 36 percent have already received their first dose.

“We are aiming that by the following months and before this year ends, all the 221,000 PNP personnel will be fully vaccinated against Covid-19,” Eleazar said in a statement.

As of Friday, only 10,506 or around 5 percent of PNP personnel have yet to be vaccinated.

Meanwhile, 224 more police officers recovered from the disease, bringing the PNP’s recovery count to 35,219.

An additional 197 cases were also logged, raising the active case tally to 2,584 out of a total of 37,916 confirmed cases.

The police force’s Covid-19 death toll climbed to 113 after one more police officer succumbed to the disease.

The latest fatality is a 35-year-old policeman from Central Luzon.

On Sept. 15, the police officer experienced chest pain and difficulty in breathing and was brought to a nearby hospital but was not accommodated as the facility has reached full bed capacity

The family of the patient tried looking for another hospital but to no avail, prompting them to bring the patient home.

At around 9:38 a.m. of the same day, he was again rushed to the hospital but already pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.

A swab test on the patient, who is also diabetic, yielded a positive result. He was fully vaccinated on Aug. 4.
