US earmarks $7.5-M to help PH combat illegal fishing

Taiwan donates P5.7-M for quake-hit cultural sites in Vigan

Taiwan on Monday donated USD100,000 or approximately PHP5.7 million to help rehabilitate damaged cultural and historical structures in Vigan City, following the July 2022 earthquake that rocked several parts of Luzon.   Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines (TECO) Representative Peiyung Hsu turned over the donation to Vigan Mayor Jose Singson Jr. who was joined by city councilors and officials.   Governor Jeremias Singson of Ilocos Sur was also present to witness the turnover.   “As the closest neighbor of the Philippines, the people of Taiwan really sympathize with the victims worst affected by the earthquake. Lifting women’s economic status benefits society: Harris

US Vice President Kamala Harris said on Monday lifting the economic status of women benefits society.   Harris met with Filipino women as part of her visit to the Philippines.   In a town hall meeting with women leaders, youth, and civil society organizations, Harris highlighted the importance of access to capital, equal access to financial literacy, and all opportunities critical to give women “a good idea, vision, and a plan” to thrive.   “You lift up the economic status of a woman, her family will be lifted, the community will be lifted, all society will benefit,” she said.  

BRP Antonio Luna shows high-tech weapons, sensors in DAGIT-PA

BRP Antonio Luna (FF-151), the Philippine Navy (PN)’s second guided missile frigate, demonstrated its advanced weapons and sensor capabilities during naval shore bombardment and air defense drills in the just-concluded “DAGIT-PA” exercises.   The BRP Antonio Luna simulated the firing of its Oto Melara 76mm Super Rapid Multi-Feeding (SRMF) Gun during a “Naval Surface Fire Support” (NSFS) at Brooke’s Point, Palawan last week.   “Prior to this event, a series of lectures and conferences were conducted with the Marine Battalion Landing Team (MBLT-6) to properly execute this serial,” a post on the BRP Antonio Luna’s Facebook page said on Tuesday.

1.5K high-value drug targets fall in 1st 100 days of Marcos admin

A total of 1,531 drug suspects tagged as high-value targets (HVTs) across the country have been arrested during the first 100 days of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.   Based on its latest data, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. 26.2K villages now ‘drug-cleared’: PNP

A total of 26,244 villages across the country have been cleared of illegal drugs under the Barangay Drug Clearing Program’s whole-of-nation approach, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Tuesday.   Citing the latest data, the PNP said the number translates to 74.23 percent of a total of 35,356 villages that were previously tagged as drug-affected.   PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. lauded the collective efforts of government agencies especially those who work to attain this notable achievement.   He said from July 1 to Nov. 1, 2022, 403 more barangays were declared drug cleared by Regional Oversight Committees.
