NCR Covid-19 positivity rate at 18.9%, highest since June: OCTA

Unspent P3M from 2019 SEAG deposited to athletes’ trust fund

Groups say deferment of village, youth polls ‘blow to democracy’

Election watchdog groups on Friday opposed the impending postponement of the 2022 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).   In a statement, National Citizens’ Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) secretary general Eric Alvia said moving the Dec. 5 polls to another date is “very disappointing and a blow to democracy.”   “This (does not) reflects the sincerity of our legislators’ commitment to the electorate and weakens the citizens to hold their local elected officials to account,” he said.   Namfrel is an accredited citizens’ arm of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the holding of plebiscites.   Meanwhile, Legal Network

Antique dads push for province division into 2 districts

Members of the provincial board have pushed for the apportionment of Antique into two legislative districts to expedite its progress.   “Antique having two congressional districts will hasten development in our province,” Board Member Victor Condez said Friday as he confirmed the approval of a resolution during the regular session on Thursday.   Once divided, Antique will have three lawmakers, including Cooperative-National Confederation of Cooperatives party-list Rep. Deteriorating sardine catch noted in Northern Samar

The only sardines processor in Northern Samar province has expressed concern over the smaller size of sardines caught in the San Bernardino Strait in recent years.   It was in 2013 when locals started to notice that their catch can now fit into a small can or bottle, unlike before when they had to cut the sardine into two.   “There is really a decline in sardine size and volume.
