SEC warns public vs. Lodi Coins

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has advised the public against investing in Lodi Coins, a supposed virtual currency offered on social media without the necessary licenses from regulators.   In an advisory dated Sept. 29, the Commission flagged the public offering of Lodi Coins by Lodi Technologies Incorporated without securing from the SEC the required order of registration of securities and certificate of permit to offer and sell securities.   Lodi Coins is not registered as a virtual asset service provider with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).   Lodi Technologies also did not have the corresponding certificate of

Baybay City to produce sweet potato baby food

The local government-run Root crops Processing Center in Baybay City in Leyte will expand its operation to include the processing of baby food from sweet potatoes, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) announced on Friday.   From producing sweet potato ice cream and chips, the processing center will venture into the application of complementary food technologies, DOST Leyte provincial head John Glenn Ocaña said in a phone interview.   “The decision to produce camote-based baby foods came about to provide another nutritious complementary food product for children six months old up to three years old,” Ocaña said.   DOST

New chair vows to eradicate unnecessary spending among GOCCs

The new chief of the Governance Commission for Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations (GCG) on Friday said he would introduce “some dynamics” on safeguarding the budgetary support that the national government is providing.   Alex Quiroz said GCG will adopt measures that will eliminate unnecessary spending by government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs).   Quiroz told the Senate Committee on Finance that the GCG is planning to establish satellite offices to directly monitor the efficiency of all GOCCs.   “We have been thinking to adapt a scheme, if not to eradicate, at least to reduce whatever dissipation that GOCCs have been committing.

Probe on for NoCot cop in shooting dead soldier

Police and military authorities are investigating a fatal shooting by a cop of a soldier in Pikit town on Thursday night.   Maj Maxim Peralta, town police chief, said Friday Senior Sgt. Chris Paul Aninon Baldo shot dead Corporal Roy Degamo of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division following a mix-up.   “The policeman, Sgt. Economic reopening seen to boost portfolio investment inflows
