India renews support to strong, unified, prosperous Asean ties

The Indian government renewed its support for a “strong, unified and prosperous” Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean).   During the Special Asean-India Foreign Ministers’ meeting on Thursday, Indian External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. DILG-NegOr all set for transition, oath-taking of new execs

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Negros Oriental is ready for a smooth transition in government on June 30 in the different local government units (LGUs).   In an interview on Thursday, DILG-Negros Oriental provincial director Farah Gentuya said the local government transition teams (LGTTs) have been organized as mandated by the agency’s memorandum circular and guidelines.   “I would like to emphasize that the local governance transition team is not only for newly-elected officials but also for those re-elected as stipulated in the memorandum,” she said.   The transition teams will ensure an effective turnover/continuance

PDEA Pangasinan inaugurates 4th Balay Silangan

Ilocos tightens border protocols to prevent entry of Omicron

The Department of Health Center for Health Development in Ilocos Region (DOH-CHD-1) remains vigilant against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) Omicron sub-variant despite zero cases in the region as of Thursday.   “We are strengthening border control protocols in coordination with the local government units to ensure that everyone who enters the region will be screened for signs and symptoms of Covid-19,” DOH-CHD-1 Covid-19 focal person Dr. Rheuel Bobis said in a virtual video presentation.   Bobis said they are also in close coordination with the hospitals in the four provinces of the region in case the Omicron sub-variant enters

Economist eyes 50 bps hike in BSP rates next week

An economist has raised the possibility of a 50 basis points (bps) increase in the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) key rates next week following the 75 basis points increase in the Federal Reserve’s rates on Wednesday.   The BSP’s policy-making Monetary Board (MB) will have its rate-setting meeting on June 23.   In a report on Thursday, Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) chief economist Michael Ricafort said the 2.25 percent rate for the local central bank’s overnight reverse repurchase (RRP) rate “is already too close/tight vis-à-vis the upper-end of the Fed Funds Rate now already at 1.75 percent.”  

Zamboanga City revives kite festival to boost tourism

The local government is holding a kite festival for the first time in two years to help revive the city’s tourism industry.   Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said part of the festival is the kite flying competition slated at 3 p.m. Sunday at the scenic Paseo del Mar.   The annual kite festival was suspended in 2020 following the coronavirus disease-19 pandemic.   “We are inviting kite enthusiasts to join the competition and help promote tourism,” Salazar said Thursday.   There are two main categories in the competition: teen (13-17-years-old) and adult (18-years-old and above).
