The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Negros Oriental is ready for a smooth transition in government on June 30 in the different local government units (LGUs).
In an interview on Thursday, DILG-Negros Oriental provincial director Farah Gentuya said the local government transition teams (LGTTs) have been organized as mandated by the agency’s memorandum circular and guidelines.
“I would like to emphasize that the local governance transition team is not only for newly-elected officials but also for those re-elected as stipulated in the memorandum,” she said.
The transition teams will ensure an effective turnover/continuance of governance so that government programs and projects are not hampered, she added.
The DILG memorandum circular stipulates that the LGTT will be composed of the local chief executive as chairperson, and its members are LGU department heads, DILG representatives, secretary of the local legislative body, a representative from a civil society organization or people’s organizations, while the vice-chairperson shall be elected among the members.
The LGTTs are mandated to conduct an inventory of programs and projects, as well as current financial status, among others, Gentuya said. They are to submit a report to the DILG central office in July.
