PNP to revoke permits of gun owners over indiscriminate firing

MANILA: Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. on Tuesday ordered the Firearms and Explosives Office (FEO) to revoke the gun licenses of those involved in indiscriminate firing during the holiday revelries.   “As I have warned at the onset of the holiday security operations, criminal liability for indiscriminate firing is further aggravated if the offender belongs to the uniformed services. Call center agent yields P3.5-M shabu in Cebu drug sting

CEBU CITY: A call center agent was arrested on Monday night in a drug sting in Lapu-Lapu City and yielded a total of PHP3.5 million worth of illegal substance believed to be shabu, the police said on Tuesday.   Col. SAF officer in Nueva Vizcaya relieved for indiscriminate firing

MANILA: The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday relieved a member of the Special Action Force (SAF) from his post including his commanding officer due to alleged indiscriminate firing in Nueva Vizcaya during the Christmas holiday.   Col. New Year’s Eve revelry in QC ‘generally peaceful’

MANILA: Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Brig. Gen. Myanmar’s Suu Kyi to spend 33 years in jail

ISTANBUL: A junta court on Friday sentenced Myanmar’s former leader Aung San Suu Kyi to seven more years, bringing her total jail term in all cases to 33 years.   The latest jail term, the 15th conviction, was given in a case of alleged corruption, which brings her trial in all cases to an end.   Former State Counselor Suu Kyi was arrested last year in February when the country’s military launched a coup.   The latest jail term was pronounced in prison by the Military Council today, the Court Newsroom confirmed, according to a report by Khit Thit Media.

Courts closed for holidays

MANILA: The Supreme Court (SC) has announced the suspension of work in all courts nationwide at noon of Dec. 29, with court operations to resume next year, January 3.   In Memorandum Order No. 181-2002, the SC, through Acting Chief Justice Marvic Leonen, said the suspension is ”in light of the upcoming consecutive holidays and to allow court personnel, parties and litigants the opportunity to attend to personal engagements and make the appropriate travel arrangements.”   The tribunal however said the suspension of afternoon work on Dec. 29 will not apply to court personnel who need to process bails, orders
