Zambo Peninsula gets 1st batch of Moderna jabs

The Zamboanga Peninsula has received an additional 46,600 doses of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines, which includes the first batch of American-made Moderna vaccines.

These include 40,000 Sinovac vaccine doses that arrived here Tuesday afternoon and the remaining 6,600 Moderna vaccines which arrived Wednesday.

Dr. Cheryl Sarmiento, local health support division chief of the Department of Health-9 (DOH-9), said the Sinovac vaccines will be distributed to various provinces and cities in the region.

Dr. Augusto Manolo Alpichi, DOH-9 assistant director, said Wednesday that the Moderna vaccines are intended for individuals 18 years old and above.

Alpichi said the first and second doses of the Moderna vaccines should be administered 28 days apart.

Meanwhile, Alpichi said the vaccination program in the region continues unhampered with the continued arrival of the vaccines from the DOH central office.

So far, the region has already received a total of 808,070 doses of vaccines of different brands.

These include Sinovac, 481,600; AstraZeneca, 168,400; Janssen, 109,200; Pfizer, 39,270; Moderna, 6,600 and Sputnik V, 3,000.
