Robinsons-Tagum, PSA ink deal for PhilSys registration

Residents of Tagum City can now apply for the Philippine Identification (PhilID) card at Robinsons Place mall that has been designated an official registration center for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).

This, after mall executives signed a memorandum of agreement with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) on Aug. 17, 2021.

A portion of the mall’s Level 2 will process registrations Mondays to Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Registration centers record photographs, and iris and fingerprint scans under the Step 2 biometrics process.

PSA-Davao del Norte Chief Statistical Specialist Pepito Amoyen assured in a previous statement that stringent safety and health guidelines like safe physical distancing and wearing of mask are being observed.

Tagum City is under general community quarantine with heightened restrictions until Aug. 31.

Signed into law by President Rodrigo R. Duterte in August 2018, Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, aims to establish a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident aliens.

The national ID shall be a valid proof of identity that shall be a means of simplifying public and private transactions, enrollment in schools, and the opening of bank accounts.

It also seeks to boost efficiency, especially in dealing with government services where people will only need to present one ID during transactions.
