World Games 2025 Athletes Village Opens in Chengdu

Chengdu: More than 4,000 athletes from 114 countries competing across 34 sports and 60 disciplines will stay in the 2025 World Games Athletes Village, which was opened Sunday, four days ahead of the multi-sport event to be held on Aug. 7-17 in Chengdu, China.

According to Philippines News Agency, the state-of-the-art Village, Zones A and B, offers comprehensive support services, including medical and chiropractic centers, dining halls with diverse food options, training and recreation zones, a laundry facility, and multi-language assistance hubs. Athletes, coaches, and International Federation (IF) officials from sports such as air sports, American football, billiards, and many others will be accommodated in Village A, while Village B will host competitors and staff from sports like archery, baseball-softball, dancesport, and others.

National Olympic Committee (NOC) and National Sports Organization (NSO) delegations will also reside in Village A. Meanwhile, the IWGA Family, including guests and key international stakeholders, will stay at the Intercontinental Century City Hotel, the designated headquarters hotel in Village B.

“This Village represents the starting point of dreams fulfilled, personal bests achieved, and unforgettable moments shared. It is here that athletes will rest, recover, and build bonds that go beyond borders, beyond language, and beyond competition,” said International World Games Association (IWGA) chief executive officer Joachim Gossow in a press statement on the World Games website Monday.

Gossow further expressed his appreciation for the Local Organizing Committee, noting that their dedication and vision have set a new benchmark for athletes’ accommodation at The World Games, with modern facilities and world-class services reflecting a deep respect for the athletes and the values of the Games.

The Philippines is sending 47 athletes to the event, including notable figures like Agatha Wong (wushu), Raphael Trinidad (skateboard), Rubilen Amit (billiards), and Annie Ramirez (jiu-jitsu). Wong and Trinidad will carry the Philippine flag during the parade of athletes at the opening ceremony on Aug. 7 at the Tianfu International Convention Center. Stephen Arapoc, president of the Muaythai Association of the Philippines, will serve as the Team Philippines chef de mission. Additionally, Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham ‘Bambol’ Tolentino, secretary general Wharton Chan, and Philippine Sports Commission chairman John Patrick Gregorio will attend the Games.
