Rains to Prevail Across Luzon Due to Southwest Monsoon

Manila: Most parts of Luzon will still experience rains due to the prevailing southwest monsoon or “habagat,” the weather bureau said Thursday. In its weather forecast issued at 4 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) indicated that occasional rains will continue over Ilocos Norte, Apayao, and the Babuyan Islands.

According to Philippines News Agency, scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected in Central Luzon, the rest of the Ilocos region, the rest of the Cordillera region, and the rest of Cagayan Valley. Moderate to heavy rains in these areas could lead to flash floods or landslides.

The rest of the country will continue to experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by the southwest monsoon. Meanwhile, the northern and western sections of northern Luzon will face strong winds and rough seas, while the rest of Luzon will have moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate, with slight to moderate coastal waters. PAGASA also noted that no low-pressure area is being monitored for potential tropical cyclone formation.
