Quezon city: With major upgrades and international-standard facilities now in place, the Quezon City government is positioning the renovated Amoranto Sports Complex as a venue not only for grassroots training but also for national and international sports events.
According to Philippines News Agency, the complex now features a 50-meter Olympic-sized pool equipped with competition-grade technology, including touchpad sensors and timing monitors. This is complemented by a warm-up pool, locker rooms, and a seating capacity of 300. Additionally, the complex boasts an indoor tennis court, a professional basketball court, and a multipurpose lobby designed for various events.
Martin Julian Manese, the action officer of the complex, emphasized that several areas are now open to both residents and non-residents of Quezon City. However, he stressed that the facilities are intended for more than just recreation. “This isn’t just for recreation. These facilities are built for serious training and top-level competition,” Manese stated in an interview with the Philippine News Agency.
Mayor Joy Belmonte, who led the facility’s inauguration over the weekend, emphasized that the upgrade reaffirms the city government’s commitment to developing local athletic talents and attracting major tournaments. In a Facebook post, the city government highlighted that one of Mayor Belmonte’s dreams and promises is for the city to have world-class facilities for athletes and to serve as a venue for various competitions.
Manese also noted that the pool is open to the public daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with plans to extend evening hours for swimmers who train later in the day. Entrance fees are set at PHP100 per person, or PHP1,500 for groups of 15. Additionally, plans are underway to offer free access to top-performing student athletes through a partnership with the office of Vice Mayor Gian Sotto.
Looking ahead, the city is preparing to open a FIFA-grade football field by 2026, along with facilities for badminton, pickleball, billiards, and table tennis. The Amoranto Stadium, originally built in 1966 during the administration of President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr., continues to evolve as a key venue in the city’s sports landscape.
