Manila: The reported death toll from the combined effects of heavy southwest monsoon rains and tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong has increased to 37, as per the official government tally.
According to Philippines News Agency, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has confirmed two deaths – one in Northern Mindanao and another in the Caraga Region. The validation of 35 additional reported fatalities is still pending, with nine in the National Capital Region, eight in Calabarzon, six in Western Visayas, three in Negros Island Region, three in the Cordillera Administrative Region, two in Central Luzon, two in Northern Mindanao, and one each in Mimaropa and Davao Region.
The series of severe weather disturbances affected 2,121,645 families or 7,685,943 individuals across 7,908 barangays nationwide. The NDRRMC reported that 30,072 families are currently sheltered in 1,037 evacuation centers, while another 23,588 families receive aid in different locations.
In addition to the human toll, the NDRRMC recorded 46,655 damaged houses, with 41,217 partially damaged and 5,488 totally destroyed. The estimated damage to agriculture stands at PHP1.96 billion, while infrastructure damage is estimated at PHP10.08 billion.
