Manila: The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) on Thursday announced that it is in the finalization stage of its Information Management System (IMS), a significant initiative aimed at streamlining public services and enhancing law enforcement operations on the country’s roads.
According to Philippines News Agency, HPG chief Brig. Gen. William Segun stated that the IMS project has undergone multiple high-level meetings involving the HPG Command Group, the Information Technology Management Service (ITMS), Secur Links Company, and other key technical personnel. These discussions have focused on system architecture, data integration, and operational applications to ensure that the platform meets both administrative and field operational demands.
Once fully implemented, the IMS will notably reduce the processing time for HPG clearances. It aims to provide a seamless nationwide system for motorists seeking clearance documentation and offer real-time access to vehicle information. This feature will enable patrolling officers to verify quickly if a vehicle is listed as ‘alarmed’ or flagged, which will significantly enhance the group’s ability to curb vehicle-related crimes and carnapping incidents.
Segun highlighted the importance of the system in enhancing public service and safety. He mentioned that the project is part of a long-term commitment to improve road safety, support frontline personnel, and embrace digital innovation, aligning with the vision of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Chief PNP Gen. Nicolas Torre III.
He further noted that the project represents a convergence of leadership, technology, and public trust. The benefits of digitalization are intended to be directly experienced by citizens and communities. As the IMS enters its final development phase, the HPG is preparing for its deployment and the nationwide training of personnel, marking a vital step toward responsive, transparent, and tech-enabled public service.
In related developments, Police Regional Office 3 (Central Luzon) Regional Director Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Pe±ones Jr. announced the procurement of 455 handheld radios for distribution to various police stations across the region. This move is part of ongoing efforts to modernize police operations and enhance field communication. An initial batch of 300 radios was acquired earlier this month, followed by an additional 155 units. Further procurement is expected in the coming months to ensure complete coverage and enhance communication for faster response among police units in urban and remote areas alike.
