Baguio Close to Hitting 2K Voter Registration Target

Baguio: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Baguio office is optimistic it will meet its 2,000 voter registration target before the Aug. 10 deadline. As of Monday, over 1,500 individuals had registered during the first three days, reflecting the public’s enthusiasm, especially among the youth, to participate in future elections.

According to Philippines News Agency, Election Officer John Paul Martin noted the significant turnout, stating, “On Sunday alone, 509 people showed up despite it being a rest day.” He expressed gratitude for the public’s dedication to participating in the upcoming elections, emphasizing that every step counts toward making a difference.

To ensure accessibility, mobile satellite registration centers are being set up daily in two locations across the city in addition to the main Comelec office. These include schools, barangay halls, and special events, such as the senior citizens’ caravan. Over the past week, mobile sites have been deployed to areas such as Irisan, Quirino Hill, and Baguio City National High School.

Martin highlighted the efforts to bring Comelec services closer to the people to encourage registration. As of December 2024, Baguio has 166,416 registered voters and had a voter turnout of 79.40 percent during the last May elections. He reminded the public not to wait until the last minute and clarified that only new voters and those reactivating their registration are being accommodated. Transfers are not allowed during this period unless from overseas absentee voters relocating permanently.
