Manila: Negros Oriental Governor Manuel Sagarbarria has ordered the suspension of afternoon and evening classes on Monday due to heavy rainfall and the threat of flooding caused by Typhoon Tapah, previously known as Lannie.
According to Philippines News Agency, the governor enacted Executive Order No. 19, series of 2025, which was shared on his Facebook page around Monday noon. The order allows for the suspension of classes and work if adverse weather conditions continue. Local chief executives have the authority to make such decisions in their jurisdictions, following guidelines set by Executive Order No. 66, series of 2012.
From Sunday evening through Monday, several areas in Negros Oriental, including the capital city, experienced moderate to heavy rainfall. Some regions are under close surveillance for potential flooding. Adrian Sedillo, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), reported that they are monitoring landslide- and flood-prone areas as intermittent rains persist.
Meanwhile, Lt. Stephen Polinar, spokesperson for the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOrPPO), stated that police forces are on high alert for possible flooding in vulnerable regions due to consistent rainfall over the weekend. Polinar also confirmed an incident involving two girls who became stranded in a river in Barangay Balugo, Guihulngan City, on Saturday as flash floods caused water levels to rise. The local police were informed by the village chief that the girls successfully navigated themselves to safety.
Additionally, a government dump truck was left by its driver in the middle of a river in Bais City after flash floods caused water levels to surge.
