PBBM appoints Centino as AFP chief of staff

MANILA: Gen. Andres Centino was appointed Friday by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. as head of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), replacing previous appointee, Lt. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Bacarro.   Centino, a member of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1988, previously served as AFP chief from Nov. 12, 2021 to August 8, 2022. Covid jabs EUA valid for a year after ‘state of calamity’ lapse

BSP’s 28-day securities rate up again

MANILA: The rate of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ (BSP) 28-day bills rose anew on Friday as yield continued to track the path of the central bank’s key policy rates.   The average rate of the securities inched up to 6.4539 percent from 6.4426 percent during the auction last Dec. 23.   The BSP hiked the offer volume to PHP160 billion, which was fully awarded from PHP120 billion previously.   Bids reached PHP224.1 billion, resulting in a bid coverage ratio of 1.4006.   BSP Deputy Governor Francisco Dakila Jr. has repeatedly traced the BSP securities rate’s uptick to the jumps

8 NegOr police execs reshuffled

DUMAGUETE CITY: At least eight police chiefs and unit commanders in Negros Oriental were reassigned Friday, hours before top officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Central Visayas tendered their courtesy resignation.   Negros Oriental Provincial police chief Col. Reynaldo Lizardo ordered the transfer of Lt. Col. Richard Gadingan, chief of the Police Community Affairs Development Unit (PCADU) of Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO), as Tanjay City chief of police. He replaced Lt. Col. Ronoel Fungo, who was assigned as the new head of the Dumaguete police.   Fungo replaced Lt. Col. Joeson Parallag, who will now head the PCADU.

P10M allocated to make Antique relocation site more liveable

Antique: The Antique provincial government will allocate PHP10 million to make a housing project in a relocation site for typhoon victims in the Municipality of Lau-an more liveable.   The relocation site in Barangay Lugta consisting of 770 housing units was built by the National Housing Authority (NHA) for families who were rendered homeless during Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in 2013.   However, the local government unit of Laua-an did not accept the units because of the flooding problem, even as 639 units had been raffled off by the NHA to the Yolanda victims leaving 77 units with no beneficiaries.  

DSWD readies 41.5K food packs for Bicol flood victims

LEGAZPI CITY: The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) on Friday said it has prepared 41,486 family food packs (FFPs) for families affected by the low-pressure area and northeast monsoon that hit the province during the past few days.   The food packs are now at the warehouses in this city, and in the provinces of Camarines Norte and Sur, and Masbate, according to Marygizelle Mesa, DSWD-5 Information Officer.   Aside from the 41,486 food packs, there are also 50,840 non-food items that are ready for distribution should local government units need to augment their relief operations.
