Ginebra’s Thompson, Brownlee win PBA Comm’s Cup individual awards

MANILA: Justin Brownlee and Scottie Thompson were named the top performers of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup, announced before Game 4 of the finals at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Friday.   Brownlee won Best Import in the mid-season conference while Thompson took his second Best Player of the Conference award.   Both also topped the media and player votes.   Brownlee dominated the statistical points (SP) race with 829 points and swept the media and player votes with all 30 reporters and 13 player representatives giving him the first-place votes for 460 more points

PBBM vows to build strong case vs. PNP execs with drug ties

MANILA: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday vowed to build a strong case against Philippine National Police (PNP) officials who are involved in the illegal drug trade.   In an interview, Marcos said the government will form a commission to look into the records of all of the officers to decide “what do we do with those that are implicated to being involved in the drug trade” in a bid to cleanse the ranks of the PNP.   The commission, Marcos said, would slowly reinstate those who are cleared of any drug links and build cases against those found

Defective X-ray machine adds to Jan. 1 chaos at NAIA

BFP-Bacolod campaigns for ‘exit drills’ as home fires up in 2022

BACOLOD CITY: The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has stepped up its campaign on the practice of EDITH or exit drill in residences as home fire incidents here increased by almost 69 percent in 2022.   Data from BFP-Bacolod on Friday showed that in 2022, there were 76 residential fire incidents, higher by 31 compared to only 45 incidents in 2021.   Fire Officer 1 Paul Servano, public information officer of Bacolod City Fire Station, said there were lower fire incidents in 2021 since people were mostly staying home because of the Covid-19 restrictions.   Although last year’s figure is
