Manila: The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said Thursday that Sheila Guo, the sister of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo, will only be deported after all legal cases against her are resolved by local courts. “We cannot implement her deportation even if she is found deportable by the BI until her local cases are fully resolved,” BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval said during the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon public briefing on Thursday. Shellfish poisoning downs 31 Samar residents

TACLOBAN CITY – At least 31 residents of Parasan in Daram, Samar, fell ill after eating red tide-infected shellfish, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Thursday. Of the victims, 20 were rushed to the Samar Provincial Hospital in Catbalogan City on Wednesday, while 11 were treated at the rural health unit for minor symptoms. These residents, including eight children, consumed green mussels harvested from the coastal waters of Zumarraga, Samar, one of the bodies of water positive for toxic red tide. DOJ honors employees, retirees for milestones in public service

Manila: Justice Secretary Jesus Remulla has recognized employees and retirees who have faithfully served the government under the Department of Justice (DOJ) during its 127th founding anniversary. A total of 63 employees and personnel have been given loyalty awards for rendering the DOJ a service length of 10 years and every five years thereafter. Ten of them served the DOJ for 40 years. Party-list candidates can’t keep gov’t positions – Comelec

Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has revised its rules regarding party-list nominees holding public office. In Resolution No. 11065, the Comelec en banc said individuals in appointive positions who are nominated by a party-list group for the May 2025 elections must resign from their posts upon the start of the campaign period. “Nominees holding appointive offices, including members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and employees in government-owned or controlled corporations, shall be considered resigned from their office,” the resolution read. Previously, Comelec allowed nominees to remain in their posts even after accepting their party-list nomination. However, the
