Maritime exercise highlights strong ties between PH, other navies

Western Command (Wescom) chief Vice Adm. Alberto Carlos on Friday said the presence of foreign naval ships participating in this year’s iteration of the “KAMANDAG” exercises has strengthened the ties between the participating nations.   “KAMANDAG” also known as the “Kaagapay ng mga Mandirigma ng Dagat”, which started last Oct. 3 and is set to end on Friday, is a joint military exercise between the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) and the United States Marine Corps (USMC).   Allied countries Japan and South Korea also participated in the exercise as observers.   One of these ships, the USNS Brunswick (T-EPF 6)

Manhunt on against suspects in cop slay try

A manhunt is ongoing against an undetermined number of suspects responsible for the attack on a police officer in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur.   In a statement issued on Friday, Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr., director of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 13 (Caraga), said Police Staff Sgt. Arnold Tanjay was about to park his car at home in Barangay Mabuhay, Bayugan City, when the attack occurred.   Tanjay is assigned to the PRO-13’s intelligence division.   “Despite being hit (several times), PSSgt. Tanjay managed to retaliate and shoot back at his attackers, prompting them to escape,” Caramat said.

3 regions reach epidemic threshold for cholera: DOH

DAR beefs up legal team to assist beneficiaries

The Department of Agrarian Reform is strengthening its legal department with new recruits in order to speed up the resolution of cases of agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs).   DAR has distributed numerous Certificate of Land Ownership Awards but ARBs are often faced with legal impediments that prevent them from taking full possession and control of their lands.   Each delay in the resolution of cases “would be a big blow to the country’s food self-sufficiency program as many farmlands that are under litigations are often left untilled or idle,” DAR Secretary Conrado Estrella said in a statement on Friday

Nearly 72K applicants in Ilocos register in DOLE’s info system

A total of 71,978 new job applicants from the Ilocos region have registered in the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) Employment Information System (PEIS) as of September this year.   In a phone interview on Friday, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 1 (Ilocos) information officer Justin Marbella said DOLE’s PEIS provides appropriate employment services to those who need jobs.   “Most of the registered applicants are from western Pangasinan with 32 percent.
