La Trinidad Flower Farmers Thrive with Direct Sales During Undas

La Trinidad:Flower farmers in La Trinidad, Benguet, experienced a significant boost in sales during the Undas season, as they were able to sell their produce directly to consumers. Many farmers reported selling their entire harvest.

According to Philippines News Agency, Andy Colti, a flower farmer-leader and farmer-scientist from Benguet, mentioned that the La Trinidad municipal government set up a temporary flower market at the town's public market parking area ahead of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, collectively known as Undas. This initiative allowed farmers and buyers to negotiate prices directly, benefiting both parties.

At least 120 stalls were exclusively designated for flower farmers from La Trinidad. Farmers from other Benguet towns were also permitted to sell their produce through stalls operated by their La Trinidad counterparts, provided they had a local connection. Colti expressed gratitude towards the municipal government for passing an ordinance that facilitated this direct selling process, reducing dependency on traders who often offer lower prices.

Meanwhile, Undas 2026 was reported to be generally peaceful in Baguio City. The Baguio City Police Office noted no major security incidents at cemeteries, columbaria, memorial parks, and transport terminals. Only minor incidents involving physical injuries and property damage were recorded between October 31 and November 2.

Police operations covered cemeteries, roads, public gathering areas, tourist destinations, bus terminals, and the city market. Approximately 45,000 people visited the public cemetery during the period, with a projected 50 percent increase in visitors compared to the previous year, supported by the long weekend and favorable weather conditions.
