Palace Urges Police to Prioritize Duty Over Loyalty in Dela Rosa Manhunt

Manila:Malacañang has called on the Philippine National Police (PNP) to focus on their duty to uphold the law rather than showing personal loyalty to former chief, Senator Ronald Dela Rosa. Dela Rosa is currently wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged crimes against humanity related to the Duterte administration's drug war.

According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro emphasized that the arrest warrant for Dela Rosa must not be ignored due to his previous role as PNP chief or his personal connections with police officials. Castro stated at a Palace briefing that the police's mandate is to enforce the law and carry out orders as per the constitution.

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla noted that Dela Rosa's former connections could complicate efforts to apprehend him. Castro remarked that this should serve as a challenge to the DILG leadership, PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., and the entire police force. She expressed confidence in Nartatez, highlighting his commitment to duty over personal ties.

Castro urged police officials not to betray the Palace's trust in their ability to carry out their responsibilities. When asked about President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s stance, Castro mentioned that he has not shown frustration, provided law enforcement and DILG officials continue to fulfill their duties.

The ICC issued a sealed arrest warrant against Dela Rosa on November 6, 2025, which was unsealed on May 11, 2026. Dela Rosa was PNP chief from July 2016 to April 2018, during the period covered by the ICC allegations. The DILG has announced a PHP50-million reward for his capture and formed a dedicated task force to locate and arrest him.
