DSWD-7 center vows more vocational training for C. Visayas PWDs

The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Central Visayas' (DSWD-Central Visayas) vocational rehabilitation center here has earned the status of 'Center of Excellence,' an official said on Friday. DSWD-7 director Shalaine Marie Lucero said the recognition, made through the issuance of a seven-year certificate of level 3 accreditation as recommended by DSWD's Standards Bureau, will redound to the benefit of persons with disabilities (PWD). She said PWDs in Central Visayas are the primary clientele of the agency's vocational training center. 'The credit goes to the entire workforce of the center for having the dedication to keep the facility at par to the standards and true to its statement of quality policy,' Lucero said. The recognition, she said, has prompted the facility to continue serving more PWDs with the highest standard of service. In 2023 alone, around 224 clients benefited from the center through community-based skills training, job placement, rehabilitative service, technical assistanc e, vocational training and provision of prostheses. The center caters to individuals with disabilities of vision, hearing, speech, mobility, and those with other forms of physical, mental and social impairment, as well as those belonging to special groups willing to undergo vocational rehabilitation.
