Dagupan starts demolition of illegal fish pens, cages

The city government here, through the Task Force Bantay Ilog, has started the demolition of illegal fish pens and cages in three barangays that have violated the city’s fishery code.   In a statement on Monday, officer-in-charge city agriculturist Patrick Dizon said there are seven illegal and oversized fish pens and cages in barangays Bonuan Gueset, Pugaro-Suit and Salapingao.   “This after the owners and operators were given notice of violation and demolition on November 11,” he said.   Dizon said the task force was accompanied by the City Agriculture Office, City Disaster Risk and Reduction and Management Office, the

OCD sets accreditation for Caraga disaster volunteers

The Office of Civil Defense in the Caraga Region (OCD-13) will begin the accreditation of Community Disaster Volunteers (CDVs) in the region.   The OCD-13 will convene all the Provincial, City, and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officers (DRRMOs) in the region on Tuesday for a one-day orientation of CDVs.   “The activity is aimed to prepare the processes and requirements for the accreditation of the CVDs in the region,” the OCD-13 said in a statement.   Aside from the accreditation, the activity will also discuss the mobilization and protection of the accredited CVDs in Caraga, the agency added.  

RT-PCR remains mandatory in Davao hospitals amid relaxed MPHS

Local government and private hospitals still require mandatory reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing of patients for admission amid the city’s relaxed minimum public health standards, a health official said Monday.   In a radio interview, Dr. Michelle Schlosser, Davao City Covid-19 Task Force spokesperson, said RT-PCR testing for patients before admission is still essential to make sure that they are negative for the virus.   “Imagine if they are positive, and they’ll be joined with other sick people who are vulnerable to the disease, the transmission will be a lot faster,” she said.   Schlosser clarified, however, that RT-PCR

Peso ends sideways, PSEi rallies on positive earnings reports

Positive corporate earnings reports contributed to another rise of the local bourse’s main index on Monday and this also buoyed the local currency, which finished the day sideways against the United States dollar.   The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) gained by 1.08 percent, or 67.99 points, to 6,354.7 points.   All Shares followed with a jump of 0.71 percent, or 23.70 points, to 3,352.59 points.   Most of the sectoral indices also increased during the day and only the Mining and Oil finished the day in the negative territory after it fell by 0.46 percent.   The gainers were

Negros Oriental Gov. An unidentified New People’s Army (NPA) rebel was killed while high-powered firearms were seized when government forces engaged armed rebels in a firefight in a mountainous area of Monreal, Masbate on Sunday.   In a report, Lt.
