Tuesday forecast: Fair weather seen over most of PH

Most parts of the country will experience generally fair weather and isolated rain showers, the weather bureau said on Tuesday. The trough of a low pressure area (LPA), however, will bring rains over parts of Mindanao and Palawan. “Palawan, especially the southern portion, will experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. Take precautions and be alert against possible flooding and landslides,” Grace Castañeda of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said. Castañeda added that the same weather condition will prevail over Caraga Region. The LPA is not expected to enter or go near the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Task force verifying reports of missing Pinoy fishermen in WPS

National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS) chairperson Hermogenes Esperon Jr. said they will look into claims made by presidential aspirant Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson that some Filipino fishermen went missing in these waters. “Mag-verify lang ako kasi wala syang sinasabing dates (I will verify as he did not give any dates),” Esperon, who is also National Security Adviser, added in an interview with reporters Monday night. BOC logs P8.7-B collection surplus in February

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Tuesday reported that it has exceeded its target collection for February by over 17 percent. Citing the latest preliminary report from its Financial Service, the BOC said it has collected a total of PHP59.036 billion, an increase of over PHP8.7 billion from its target collection of PHP50.302 billion. It also reported that 14 of the 17 collection districts exceeded their target for the month — the ports of San Fernando, Port of Manila, Manila International Container Port, Batangas, Iloilo, Cebu, Tacloban, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga, Davao, Subic, Clark, Aparri, and Limay. Consumers would have to pay more for cooking gas as a big-time price hike took effect on Tuesday. Petron implemented an increase of PHP7.95 per kilogram of LPG while Shell’s Solane-branded LPG rose by PHP7.14 per kilogram. The price hike this month reflected an increase of PHP78.54 to PHP87.45 for a regular 11-kilogram LPG cylinder.
