Bargain hunting lifted the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) on Tuesday while the peso finished the day sideways against the US dollar. The main stocks index inched up by 0.49 percent, or 35.57 points, to 7,288.21 points. All Shares also rose by 0.44 percent, or 16.97 points, to 3,864.48 points. As it seeks to completely eradicate African swine fever (ASF), the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI) said mentorship from international groups helped strengthen their programs. DA-BAI Director Reildrin Morales said groups such as the World Organisation for Animal Health, Food and Agriculture Organization, and agencies under the Canadian and Spanish governments were helpful in studies on how to effectively end ASF. “The lessons we have learned from these groups who experienced the same issue really fueled our programs to prevent further damage and hopefully destroy completely the presence of ASF here,” Morales said in an interview
More areas in Eastern Visayas will be placed under Alert Level 4 if the hospital utilization rate will continue to increase, the Department of Health (DOH) regional office here warned on Tuesday. Police operatives in Negros Oriental have arrested the No. 2 “most wanted person” of the Regional Highway Patrol Unit Central Visayas (RHPU7) during a joint operation in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental. A report from the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office on Tuesday identified the suspect as Mary Ann Ramos, also known as Nancy Gustilo Lim, 65, a resident of Barangay Villamonte in Bacolod City.
