Pasay city: The United States is enhancing its cultural diplomacy in the Philippines with a free concert by the US Marine Corps Forces Pacific Band (MARFORPAC) scheduled in Pasay City this Sunday. The event, set to take place at the SM Mall of Asia Sky Amphitheater at 5 p.m. on June 28, is a part of the US's 'Freedom 250' initiative, celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence.
According to Philippines News Agency, the concert will feature the US Marine Band alongside the Armed Forces of the Philippines Band and artists from the World Championship of Performing Arts. The US Embassy's Deputy Director of Public Engagement, Chad Kinnear, emphasized that 'Freedom 250' is not just a milestone but a tribute to the values America has represented through generations. Kinnear highlighted the role of the MARFORPAC Band in conveying these ideals through music, underscoring the strong ties between the US and the Philippines.
The US Marine Band consists of 39 Marines, with a 10-member brass ensemble visiting the Philippines. These Marines are both trained riflemen and professional musicians, known for delivering high-energy jazz and contemporary music across the Indo-Pacific region, including performances in Hawaii, Tonga, Fiji, China, Australia, New Zealand, Guadalcanal, Iwo To, and American Samoa.
US Marine Chief Warrant Officer 2 Aaron Carpenter, who directs the band, remarked on the dual role of its members as musicians and Marines, each having completed standard recruit training. Carpenter expressed that through music, the band members embody the core values of the Marine Corps: honor, courage, and commitment.
In addition to their performance, the band will conduct music workshops for students at the Philippine High School for the Arts and the University of the East during their visit to the Philippines.
