Manila: Senator JV Ejercito is advocating for the approval of a proposal to provide a PHP10,000 increase to the basic monthly salary of public school teachers, irrespective of their service duration.
According to Philippines News Agency, Ejercito announced in a news release on Friday that Senate Bill No. 335, also known as the Dagdag Suweldo Para sa mga Guro (Additional Pay for Teachers) Act, aims to acknowledge the critical role of teachers in educating Filipino children while addressing the financial difficulties they face. Ejercito emphasized the significant responsibilities and sacrifices teachers bear and stated that the proposed salary increase is a means to better appreciate their efforts.
Ejercito highlighted that teachers perform various tasks beyond teaching, such as preparing lessons, evaluating student work, compiling reports, and nurturing students. These efforts underscore their dedication and the sacrifices they make daily. The senator stressed that the measure aims to enhance teachers' quality of life and attract top talents to remain in the public education system.
He further remarked that achieving quality education is challenging if educators on the front lines continue to face livelihood struggles. By improving teachers' financial welfare, the government can demonstrate its appreciation for their contributions to society and the education sector.
Ejercito assured teachers that while their sacrifices are invaluable, the government intends to show its gratitude through this proposed financial support.
