Manila: Two transmission lines in Northern Luzon are currently unavailable due to the impact of Super Typhoon Nando, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). In an advisory on Monday, NGCP reported that the Lallo-Sta. Ana 69kV Line, serving the Cagayan II Electric Cooperative Inc. (CAGELGOII), was out of service since 9:25 a.m. Additionally, the San Esteban-Bangued 69kV Line, which services the Abra Electric Cooperative (ABRECO), has been unavailable since 11:39 a.m.

According to Philippines News Agency, inspections and restoration efforts for the affected lines will commence in full once weather conditions permit. Officials from the energy sector earlier urged the public to understand that power restoration might be delayed during adverse weather conditions to ensure the safety of linemen.

Similarly, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has advised its customers to remain vigilant amid the heavy rains, assuring them of a prompt response. Joe Zaldarriaga, Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications, emphasized the strategic deployment and 24/7 standby status of their crews and personnel, urging the public to prioritize safety, especially in flood-prone areas.

Meralco encourages customers to report power outages and related issues through its official social media pages, via SMS or call, or through the Meralco Hotline. Meanwhile, the latest report from the weather bureau placed the center of ‘Nando’ over the coastal waters of Babuyan Island, Calayan in the Cagayan province, with maximum sustained winds of 215 kph near the center and gusts reaching up to 295 kph. Various areas are under different Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals, with the highest being Signal No. 5 over Babuyan Island.
