SSS to Collect P364-K from Delinquent Employees in Legazpi

Legazpi: The Social Security System (SSS) Legazpi is expected to collect PHP364,521.30 in contributions for violations of employers, as part of its 11th Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) campaign on Friday. The amount consists of PHP314,910 in principal delinquency and PHP49,611.30 in penalties.

According to Philippines News Agency, Maria Betina Abareta, acting head of the accounts management section, stated that the total amount comes from four out of seven non-compliant businesses that failed to remit their contributions, while the other three are not registered. The seven businesses involved, affecting 37 employees, include a printing shop, a laundry service, an appliance repair shop, an appliance dealer, a car accessories store, a restaurant diner, and a food outlet.

In 2025, Abareta mentioned that SSS-Legazpi has collected PHP856,328.27 in delinquent contributions as of October. Jogar Tosoc, SS-Legazpi branch head, emphasized that the RACE campaign serves as a reminder for employers of their obligations, ultimately benefiting both employers and employees, rather than intimidating them. “SSS RACE serves as a reminder for employers to comply with SSS regulations because it is for their own good and for the benefit of employees, as well,” he said in an interview.

Lawyer Danilo Ayo highlighted that their agency does not aggressively pursue legal action, which is why the RACE campaign is an important consideration. “We’re not very aggressive when it comes to filing cases, so we introduced RACE as an additional measure,” he said in a separate interview. Ayo also encouraged employees to be vigilant about their rights. “Employees should be more alert regarding their rights and report to the SSS any employers who fail to comply, as non-compliance can affect their benefits and privileges,” he added.

Under Republic Act 11199 or the Social Security Act of 2018, non-compliant employers could face imprisonment of up to 12 years, and/or a fine of PHP6,000 to PHP12,000.
