Manila: Shares declined on Tuesday as investors await further signs of global economic recovery, while the peso barely moved. The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) slightly declined by 0.13 percent to close at 6,734.21. All Shares, however, went up by 0.06 percent to 3,791.77.
According to Philippines News Agency, “Philippine and US equities delivered mixed results as investors await more data that would confirm that the world economy continues to show signs of recovery,” Regina Capital Development Corp. managing director Luis Limlingan said. Sectors were mixed with Financials, Industrial, and Property closing in the red, while Services and Mining and Oil closed in the green. Advancers led decliners 103 to 90.
The peso, meanwhile, remained flat, closing at 58.58 to the US dollar compared to Monday’s 58.65 finish. It opened at 58.69 and traded between 58.57 and 58.70. The day’s weighted average was 58.64. Volume slightly declined to USD1.32 billion from the previous day’s USD1.35 billion.
