Quezon city: The national and local government personnel on Monday started the removal of broken-down trucks and buses occupying two lanes along the Do±a Carmen portion of Commonwealth Avenue to ease traffic in the area.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) stated that the removal of the vehicles was in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s order to clear major thoroughfares of obstacles. “Dahil dito, dalawang lanes sa Commonwealth ang nabuksan pa at pwede nang magamit ulit ng mga motorista (Because of this, two lanes along Commonwealth have been immediately opened and are immediately usable again for motorists),” the DOTr said.
Last Sunday, acting DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez inspected the area and ordered the removal of the impounded trucks obstructing the portion of the major thoroughfare. “Alam naman nating matindi ang traffic dito sa Commonwealth lalo na kung rush hour, kaya minadali na natin ‘yung pagtatanggal nitong mga sirang sasakyan na dapat naman talaga ay nasa impounding area (We know that traffic on Commonwealth is bad, especially during rush hour. That’s why we rushed the removal of these broken-down vehicles that should have been in the impounding area),” Lopez said.
The DOTr was joined in the operation by the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), Meralco, and the local government of Quezon City. Lopez added that more vehicles will be removed in the following days to further open up Commonwealth Ave.
Lopez emphasized the priority of ensuring a quick and convenient journey for motorists and commuters, while also maintaining their safety from any obstructions on the road. “Priority natin lagi na mabilis at maayos yung biyahe ng mga motorista at komyuter, at dapat ligtas din sila sa anumang obstruction sa kalsada (It is our priority that the journey for motorists and commuters is quick and convenient, and they should be safe from any obstruction on the road),” he said.
