Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) is deepening its alliance with Japan and Guyana to further strengthen its capabilities in maintaining regional security and order.

According to Philippines News Agency, PNP acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. welcomed Japanese Ambassador to Manila Endo Kazuya and Honorary Consul Joseph Gabriel D’Oliveira of the Consulate of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana and the Caribbean Association of Southeast Asian Nations Council in separate courtesy visits at the PNP National Headquarters last week, where the parties reaffirmed their commitment to broaden cooperation.

This initiative aligns with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and the guidance of Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla to foster international partnerships that promote peace, stability, and collective security in the region.

“The meetings were very productive. We discussed ongoing cooperation and future initiatives that will further strengthen the PNP’s capability in maintaining security and order. With Japan and the Co-operative Republic of Guyana as partners, we are building a safer Philippines,” Nartatez said.

During the meeting with Endo, Nartatez emphasized Japan’s vital role in helping the PNP enhance its operational readiness, particularly in maritime security, counterterrorism, and cybercrime. The meeting reaffirmed the strong ties between the Philippines and Japan, focusing on shared efforts to enhance law enforcement collaboration, public safety, and regional security.

Meanwhile, Nartatez’s meeting with D’Oliveira served as an opportunity to formally introduce their institutions as they explored avenues of mutual cooperation in law enforcement, focusing on strategies to address transnational challenges, enhance consular coordination, and strengthen regional security initiatives.

“Japan and the Co-operative Republic of Guyana are vital partners for the PNP. Their support greatly helps us strengthen our operational readiness. Together, we stand stronger against emerging threats,” he stated.

The collaboration with the two envoys also includes training exchanges, capacity-building programs, and sharing of best practices that will support the PNP’s modernization roadmap. “The PNP is fully committed to deepening cooperation with Japan and Guyana. Our vision is clear: a modern, capable, and trusted police force for every Filipino,” Nartatez concluded.
