PCA Mobile Health Services Benefit Over 600 Farmers in Antique

Antique: The mobile health services initiative of the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) served over 600 coconut farmers and their dependents in the Municipality of San Remigio, Antique, exceeding the initial target of 500 beneficiaries for the two-day activity.

According to Philippines News Agency, PCA Regional Social Worker head Ellen Arandela-Espada stated that the initiative was supported by four doctors, five dentists, and two optometrists who attended to the needs of the target beneficiaries at the San Remigio Evacuation Center in Barangay San Rafael. The services form a part of the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan aimed at assisting coconut farmers and their dependents.

The event saw participation from 15 offices of the provincial government of Antique, including the Integrated Provincial Health Office and the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), as well as national government agencies. Additional services were provided by the Philippine Army, offering free haircuts, and the Philippine Statistics Authority, which facilitated mobile birth registration. The PSWDO conducted case management for individuals seeking crisis aid.

San Remigio Mayor Margarito Mission highlighted the significance of the mobile health services, noting that 70 percent of the 45 barangays in the municipality are considered geographically isolated and disadvantaged, making access to medical services challenging. The mobile unit brought much-needed healthcare to these remote areas.

Raffy Sagado, a 26-year-old resident of Barangay Bagumbayan, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to receive a medical checkup and free medicines for his respiratory condition, emphasizing the importance of the initiative for local residents' health needs.
