Matibag Challenges Defensor to File Charges Over Flood Control Allegations

Manila: National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag on Thursday challenged former congressman Mike Defensor to substantiate his claims linking Matibag's wife to an alleged flood control corruption scheme. Matibag urged Defensor to file a case if he possesses evidence against his wife, Laguna 1st District Rep. Ann Matibag, during a press briefing.

According to Philippines News Agency, Matibag also dared Defensor to file charges against him if he believes that the NBI is unjustly targeting and harassing his family. "He should file a complaint against me if he feels he is being politically persecuted," Matibag stated.

The NBI chief further asserted that there is compelling evidence of Defensor's involvement in human trafficking operations at the Chicago KTV Bar and the Bleu Hotel, which are owned by Defensor's family. A raid conducted at the bar on April 21 resulted in the rescue of 54 female victims.

Matibag dismissed Defensor's remarks, describing them as foolish. "The stupidity is including one's family in illegal activities," he remarked. On Wednesday, Matibag announced that the NBI would proceed with filing qualified human trafficking charges against Defensor.
