Zamboanga city: Maritime enforcement operations in Western Mindanao recently confiscated PHP99.65 million worth of alleged contraband, consisting of fuel, cigarettes, and lumber, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) reported on Saturday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the operations were conducted by the Naval Command Western Mindanao (NCWM) from Aug. 28 to Sept. 3. Seized during the operations were undocumented diesel fuel valued at PHP72.17 million, smuggled foreign-brand cigarettes and a motor vessel worth PHP27.23 million, and illegally transported Lauan lumber valued at PHP251,999.

Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno stated that the accomplishment reflects NCWM's commitment to maritime security and its crucial role in deterring illicit activities within the country's waters. 'This success reflects the readiness, discipline, and dedication of our maritime enforcers to their duty. We recognize and appreciate the efforts of the NCWM and its partner agencies in helping safeguard our borders and protect the public from the harmful effects of illicit trade,' he said.

Nepomuceno reaffirmed BOC's support for law enforcement and military agencies working to strengthen border security and uphold the rule of law.
