NCR Anticipated to Experience Dry Conditions by December or January

Manila:The National Capital Region (NCR) is forecast to face dry conditions, characterized by below-normal rainfall, starting in December or January.

According to Philippines News Agency, Ana Liza Solis, chief of the Climate Monitoring and Prediction Section at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), mentioned in a radio interview that Metro Manila has not yet felt the impacts of El Niño due to recent rain events.

El Niño is predicted to become very strong in the upcoming weeks, with its effects potentially lasting until the first half of 2027. Solis noted that the intertropical convergence zone has recently mitigated El Niño's impact on Mindanao and parts of the Visayas.

During a very strong El Niño, significant reductions in rainfall, along with dry conditions, dry spells, and droughts, are expected in various parts of the country. Due to high heat index levels anticipated in most areas, the public is advised to limit outdoor activities and stay hydrated.

PAGASA forecaster Chris Perez urged people to avoid going outdoors, particularly between 12 noon and 3 p.m., and to drink plenty of water, especially those working in the construction industry. Senior citizens are advised to remain indoors in well-ventilated areas to reduce the risks of heat stroke, heat cramps, and exhaustion.

Perez also reminded the public to carry an umbrella for protection against both the sun and rains caused by localized thunderstorms.
