Cebu city: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced that the government is assessing the damage caused by a magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Bogo City, Cebu, on Tuesday night. During a visit to Masbate City, Marcos shared that Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., chairperson of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), has traveled to Cebu to evaluate the situation.

According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos emphasized the government’s commitment to providing assistance to those displaced by the earthquake. He acknowledged the strength of the quake and expressed concern over the significant number of casualties. More than 60 individuals have lost their lives due to the disaster.

Marcos has instructed relevant government agencies to ensure that aid is delivered promptly to affected areas. He also advised the public to remain vigilant and follow advisories issued by local authorities.

The NDRRMC, along with the Office of the Civil Defense, is coordinating efforts across government agencies to facilitate efficient relief and rescue operations. In response to the calamity, Cebu province has been declared under a state of calamity to expedite the assistance process.
