Manila: As Congress reconvenes, leaders of the House of Representatives have assured that the ratification of the proposed PHP6.352 trillion national budget for 2025 will be a top priority on their agenda. In a recent statement, it was emphasized that this financial plan is crucial for the country’s development and will be addressed promptly.
According to Philippines News Agency, House Majority Leader Manuel Jose Dalipe of Zamboanga’s 2nd District expressed optimism that the Senate would approve the budget proposal soon, enabling the bicameral conference committee to finalize a unified version. “We hope to ratify the bicam report before our Dec. 20 Christmas break,” Dalipe stated, underscoring the urgency of the matter.
In addition to the national budget proposal, Dalipe highlighted the House’s commitment to exercising its oversight powers through various committees. This includes the quad committee (quadcom), which addresses interconnected issues such as Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators, illegal drugs,
money laundering, and extrajudicial killings. “We remain steadfast in protecting our people from abuses and exposing acts of wrongdoing in government,” he affirmed.
The quadcom is scheduled to hold its 10th hearing on November 7, with the possibility of former president Rodrigo Duterte attending the inquiry. This hearing is part of the House’s ongoing efforts to address critical issues affecting the nation.
Meanwhile, the Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability will continue its investigation into the confidential funds of the Office of the Vice President. This inquiry is part of the House’s broader initiative to ensure transparency and accountability in government operations.
Furthermore, the House will focus on passing remaining measures from the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council priority list. These include the Budget Modernization Bill, National Defense Bill, amendments to the Agrarian Reform Law, and amendments to the Foreign Investors’ Long-Term Lease. These legislativ
e efforts reflect the House’s dedication to fostering economic growth and strengthening national security.
