MMDA to Host First Road to Zero Waste Summit at Unilab Bayanihan Center.

Pasig City: The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is set to spearhead the inaugural Road to Zero Waste Summit, marking it as the largest event dedicated to sustainable waste management and the promotion of a circular economy. Scheduled to take place at the Unilab Bayanihan Center in Pasig City, the summit will be held on November 5 and 6, offering free entry to the public.

According to Philippines News Agency, the event themed “Closing the Loop Towards a Circular Economy” aims to highlight innovative waste management solutions tailored to address the solid waste challenges in Metro Manila, paving the way for long-term sustainability. The summit will feature a diverse range of activities including product exhibits, panel discussions, and interactive sessions designed to elevate public awareness on waste technologies and community-based interventions. These activities intend to create a unified roadmap to boost waste diversion in the region.

The event seeks to bridge communities and recyclers,
fostering a collective advocacy for a zero-waste and sustainable future. Attendees will have the opportunity to gain insights into proper solid waste management practices, take home eco-friendly products, and receive various giveaways from MMDA and its partners.

A showcase of the latest products, services, and innovations in waste recycling industries will be on display, with demonstrations of technologies suitable for adoption by local government units, communities, and households. The summit will host forums led by esteemed speakers from sectors focusing on the circular economy, best practices in solid waste management, and green advocacy for recycled products. Attendees will engage in discussions through interactive question-and-answer sessions.

Participants will also learn about proper waste segregation, existing waste diversion points for recyclers across Metro Manila, and innovative waste-handling techniques such as composting and plastic recycling. These discussions aim to inspire contributions towar
ds environmental sustainability from workplaces to homes.

MMDA Chairman Romando Artes emphasized the significance of the summit, stating, “The Road to Zero Waste Summit marks an important step in Metro Manila’s journey towards sustainability. It’s a platform for sharing knowledge, building networks, and fostering collaboration that will guide us toward a cleaner, greener, and more resilient metropolis. We urge everyone to join us in shaping the future of solid waste management.”

To facilitate access for participants, the summit will offer free shuttle services along Bank Drive corner Julia Vargas, with SM Megamall as a landmark, leading to the Bayanihan Center.
