DOLE Allocates PHP3.1 Million for Livelihood Aid in Ilocos Norte

Ilocos norte: The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has allocated PHP3.1 million in livelihood assistance to 198 beneficiaries in Ilocos Norte. This initiative aims to support the vulnerable sectors in building sustainable sources of income, moving beyond temporary relief.

According to Philippines News Agency, Janelyn Martin, head of DOLE-Ilocos Norte, highlighted the distribution of livelihood aid during the 128th Philippine Independence Day and Kalayaan Job Fair at SM City Laoag. This initiative is part of the DOLE Trabaho Agad program, aligned with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s goal of expanding access to decent work opportunities and enhancing sustainable employment for Filipinos.

The beneficiaries expressed their appreciation for the government's timely support. Imelda Cabanatan, president of the Mabaleng Food Processors Association (MFPA), acknowledged the opportunity granted to them, particularly for unemployed mothers. The MFPA received a grant of PHP498,763 to enhance its sweet potato processing operations, which include producing sweet potato chips in various flavors.

Additionally, the Solid Alliance Association, led by Elimilia Balicao from Barangay Santiago in Marcos town, received PHP342,880 to expand their egg-laying enterprise. Balicao, who returned to the Philippines after working as a housekeeper in the Middle East for 14 years, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to sustain her livelihood locally.

Ilocos Norte 2nd District Rep. Angelo Marcos Barba emphasized the government's commitment to rolling out more livelihood projects to improve the quality of life for Filipinos. Beneficiaries were encouraged to maximize their chosen livelihoods, with assurances of continued government support to foster new opportunities and a brighter future for the nation.

The government provides livelihood grants through startup materials for various community-based enterprises, including sewing, food processing, agriculture, and livestock ventures. Individuals can receive livelihood starter kits worth up to PHP50,000, while groups or associations may receive assistance of up to PHP3 million, depending on the project.
