Bursa Malaysia Opens Lower Amid Wall Street’s Record Gains

KUALA LUMPUR, Bursa Malaysia opened marginally lower on Monday as some investors engaged in profit-taking, reflecting cautious sentiment across regional markets, despite last week’s record gains on Wall Street, according to an analyst. At 9.15 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 0.67 of-a-point to 1,659.42, down from last Friday’s close of 1,660.09. The benchmark index had initially opened 1.80 points higher at 1,661.89. Across the broader market, decliners slightly outnumbered advancers, with 258 stocks declining compared to 219 advancing. There were 304 counters unchanged, 1,701 untraded and 79 suspended. Turnover totalled 263.49 million units, valued at RM149.81

Three Killed, Five Injured In Seven-vehicle Crash On KL-Karak Expressway

KUANTAN, Three men died and five others were injured, three seriously, in a seven-vehicle pileup at KM 42 of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway today. A spokesman for the Pahang Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Pahang said they received an emergency call at 4.13 am regarding a road crash involving four cars, a three-ton lorry and two trailers. The crash involved 13 casualties, comprising nine men and four women. “Immediately after arriving at the scene, the firemen carried out the work of removing the victims from the wrecked vehicles and extinguishing a trailer truck that was on fire,” he said

Police Seek Help To Find Missing Man

IPOH, Police have appealed for help from the public to trace a man who has been missing since Sept 13. Kerian police chief Supt Juna Yusoff said the man is identified as Zakaria Mamat, 51, from Batu 12 1/2, Jalan Pantai, Kuala Kurau. ‘The man is 157 centimetres tall, weighs 60 kilogrammes, has short hair, a thin moustache and a slim build, he has a pitted scar on his left arm. “He was last spotted wearing a red T-shirt and grey trousers,” he said in a statement today. KUALA LUMPUR, Former lecturer at the School of Social Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Professor Dr Ahmad Atory Hussain, died at the age of 73 today. JAKOA Allocates RM4.3 Mln For Orang Asli Sports Development This Year

IPOH, A total of RM4.3 million has been allocated by the Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) this year under the Human Capital Development Programme to provide opportunities for Orang Asli youth to engage in sports and fitness activities, as well as to promote a healthy lifestyle. Rural and Regional Development Ministry secretary-general Datuk Muhd Khair Razman Mohamed Annuar said the programme also aims to foster closer ties among the 18 Orang Asli ethnic groups in Peninsular Malaysia through sports activities and provide exposure to information on rules and regulations of the sports being contested. ‘Thirdly, it aims to enhance
