PSEi snaps rally ahead of key data releases; peso ends sideways

The main stock index closed lower on Monday ahead of the shortened week for Wall Street but the peso managed to end the day sideways against the United States dollar.   The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) shed 0.53 percent, or 34.14 points, to 6,403.24 points.   All Shares followed with a drop of 0.31 percent, or 10.67 points, to 3,385.96 points.   Despite the slip in the main index, most of the sectoral indices gained during the day, namely Industrial, 0.62 percent; Services, 0.56 percent; Financials, 0.17 percent; and Mining and Oil, 0.11 percent.   However, Property and Holding

UN expert coming to help upgrade PH forensic capabilities

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has invited a special rapporteur from the United Nations (UN) to improve the government’s forensic pathology capabilities as part of efforts to address extrajudicial killings (EJKs).   In a press briefing Monday on the recently concluded fourth Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the Philippines human rights situation in Geneva, Switzerland, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said upgrading the skill will also be helpful during disasters.   Remulla said forensic doctor Morris Tidball-Binz will be arriving in the country, along with two other rapporteurs for children and human rights, in the early part of 2023.  

Nat’l Book Week to feature works of Antique writers

Books and other publications by local writers in Antique will be featured during the 88th National Book Week celebration in the province.   Antique provincial librarian Grace Magullado said in an interview Monday they will hold an exhibit at the Provincial Library on Nov. 24-30 where they will be featuring books and other local works or manuscripts of writers promoting the local culture, history, and popular heirloom menus.   “The Provincial Library will feature the written or oral works produced by local writers to encourage them to write more about the province,” she said.   She said with the theme
