Daily average of new Covid-19 cases down by 12% from Nov. 14-20

The daily average of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases has decreased by 12 percent from Nov. 14 to 20, the Department of Health (DOH) said Monday.   From 1,296 per day recorded from Nov. 7 to 13, the number went down to 1,143 daily in the recent week.   The latest case bulletin showed that there were 8,004 new cases and 93 verified deaths.   Of the additional deaths, the DOH said 28 occurred from Nov. 7 to 20.   In the same period, two cases were added to the tally of severe and critical infections, which also went down

MARINA, Nautical Institute to boost maritime education in PH

The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has partnered with the Nautical Institute (NI) to boost the country’s maritime education and training (MET) through a memorandum of understanding (MOU).   In a statement on Monday, MARINA said the NI will provide the agency and local MET institutions with “academic advice and suggestions” through the MOU.   These include improvements on MET curricula for officers on board and postgraduate curricula for shore-based maritime personnel and the conduct of academic workshops “to improve teaching methodology and contents of subjects included in the curricula.”   It also aims to “support the professional development of seafarers”

Iloilo town reports decline in ASF cases

Cases of African swine fever (ASF) in Oton, Iloilo are already declining, Vice Mayor Jose Neil Olivares said on Monday.   He said that of the 37 barangays, only 28 have remaining ASF cases and more or less 9,000 swine are not contaminated.   “The figure (of cases) is going down so hopefully this will continue and we can already contain the ASF in the municipality of Oton,” he said in an interview.   He added that teams from the municipal agriculture’s office have been going around for the conduct of monitoring, surveillance and series of tests.   Olivares said
