BuCor chief suspended after death of Mabasa slay ‘middleman’

Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gerald Bantag has been placed under indefinite suspension by Malacañang after the death of an inmate who was allegedly one of the conspirators behind the killing of broadcaster Percival Mabasa or Percy Lapid. NegOcc ships back P151K worth of pork products to Iloilo

Quarantine inspectors in Negros Occidental shipped backed PHP151,195 worth of pork products to the neighboring Iloilo province after these items have been banned here starting Oct. 14, following a reported incidence of African swine fever (ASF) in Oton, Iloilo.   The items were part of the PHP165,025 in total pork products seized in various ports of entry from Oct. 15 to 19, data from the Provincial ASF Task Force on Friday showed.   At the Bredco Port in this city alone, PHP155,845 worth of items were apprehended, of which PHP151,195 were returned to the point of origin, while PHP4,650 were

2 projects for NPA-infested villages completed in N. Samar

The Northern Samar provincial government has announced the completion of the first two projects funded through the Support to Barangay Development Program (SBDP) in conflict-stricken Hitapian village in Catubig town.   The provincial government said on Friday the PHP4.8 million worth of completed projects including a two-classroom school building and a barangay health station were turned over to the village on Oct. 18.   This is the first SBDP completed project in Catubig town since the initiative kicked off in the province last year.   “The facilities will support sustainable rehabilitation and development in conflict-ridden communities such as Hitapian village,”

PH netter Alcantara to compete in 2 P1.5-M events in Indonesia

After breaking into the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Top 300 doubles rankings last week, Francis Casey Alcantara is set to compete in five tournaments starting with the two-leg Medco Energi International Tennis Championships in Indonesia.   The first leg is scheduled from Oct. 24 to 30 while the second leg will be from Oct. 31 to Nov. 6. The two tournaments have a cash prize of USD25,000 (PHP1.47 million) each and will be played at the Sultan Hotel hard courts in Jakarta.   Alcantara is currently world No. 292. He reached a career-best ranking of No. 257 in 2018.
