NegOr logs P2.2-B agri losses due to ‘Odette’

The province of Negros Oriental has recorded close to PHP2.2 billion in losses in the agricultural sector caused by the onslaught of Typhoon Odette on Dec. 16, 2021. A report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) on Monday showed that as of Jan. 2, 2022, the grand total production loss was pegged at PHP2.183 billion with 92,776 farmers affected. T-bill rates drop on expectations for slower inflation rate

Expectations for a slower inflation rate for December 2021 resulted in the drop of Philippine treasury bill (T-bill) rates on Monday. The average rate of the 91-day paper slipped to 1.075 percent, the 182-day’s to 1.269 percent, and the 365-day’s to 1.600 percent. These were at 1.125 percent, 1.428 percent, and 1.649 percent for the three-month, six-month, and one-year debt papers, respectively, during the previous auction on Dec. 13, 2021. Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) offered each tenor for PHP5 billion and the auction committee made a full award across the board. Total bids for the 91-day paper reached PHP24.144

DepEd suspends pilot F2F classes in NCR

The Department of Education on Sunday confirmed that face-to-face (F2F) classes for pilot schools in the National Capital Region (NCR) are suspended until alert status reverts to Level 2. Manila prepares quarantine sites for possible case surge

The city government of Manila is reviewing the facilities of its quarantine sites in preparation for a possible surge of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases due to the Omicron variant. The city has a 530 Covid-19 bed capacity and a buffer of about 200 beds in several dormitels. Only 37 beds are in use as of posting time. On Monday, Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso and officials of the Manila Health Department (MHD), Manila Department Risk Reduction Management, and Manila Police District inspected renovation works at the Araullo High School site at the corner of United Nations and Taft Avenues.

Fireworks-related injuries 59% lower than 5-year average

Fireworks-related injuries (FWRIs) for 2021 rose to 167, higher than in 2020 but lower than the five-year average, a health official reported on Monday. In an online media forum, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire reported that there are 14 additional FWRIs as of 6 a.m. Monday, pushing the tally to 167. “This report is a bit higher compared to 2020, which only reported 120 cases but 59 percent lower than the five-year average of 403 cases during the same time period,” Vergeire said. PH now classified again as ‘high risk’ for Covid-19

The country is now classified high risk for Covid-19 following the increase in cases toward the end of 2021, a health official said Monday.
