PH peso seen to be supported by BOP, foreign reserves

The Philippine peso is seen to get a lift from the expansion of the country’s balance of payment (BOP) position and gross international reserves (GIR). On Thursday, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) reported higher BOP, which is the summary of a country’s transactions with the rest of the world, and foreign reserves for August 2021. “Going forward, any improvement in BOP and GIR for the coming months could help provide greater cushion/support/buffer for the peso exchange rate vs. the US dollar especially vs. any speculative attacks,” Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) chief economist Michael Ricafort said in a report.

Comelec execs to meet on voter sign-up extension

Top officials of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) are set to convene to discuss calls to extend the voter registration until next month. In a virtual briefing Friday, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said the poll body en banc will meet next week regarding the matter. “I would just like to make an announcement in response to the public clamor for an extension of the voter registration period. DSWD grants P5.8-M cash aid to crisis-hit Eastern Samar families

At least PHP5.8 million cash assistance has been distributed to poor families in Eastern Samar badly displaced by the current health crisis, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported on Friday. Each of the 1,960 families got PHP3,000 cash aid meant for individuals in crisis situation during the distribution on Sept. 17 to 20, 2021.
