Isabela City: Police are searching for the gunmen who wounded a village official and her husband in Isabela City, Basilan province. Lt. Col. Raymond Sanson, Isabela City Police chief, on Thursday identified the victims as Rowena Repono, 51, a councilor from Barangay Eastside, and her husband, Dominick, 54.
According to Philippines News Agency, the shooting occurred at about 8:35 p.m. on Wednesday. The couple was riding a motorcycle when they were shot, as revealed by an initial investigation. The attackers fled the scene, leaving the victims to be taken to a hospital for treatment.
Four empty .45-caliber pistol shells were recovered at the scene of the crime. The shooting marked the first such incident in Isabela City since the election gun ban took effect on January 12.
