Uwan Death Toll Now at 27 – NDRRMC

Manila: The reported death toll from Super Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong) has climbed to 27, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Wednesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the disaster response agency revealed that out of the total fatalities, 19 were reported from the Cordillera Administrative Region. This includes nine from Ifugao, four from Benguet, and three each from Kalinga and Mountain Province. In addition, three deaths occurred in Nueva Vizcaya province in Cagayan Valley. Further fatalities were reported in Catanduanes, Capiz, Samar, Sulu, and an unidentified province currently being verified by the NDRRMC.

The storm also left 36 individuals injured, and two people remain missing. All reported casualty figures are still undergoing validation by the authorities. The typhoon has impacted a significant population, with 1,006,149 families, equivalent to 3,596,174 individuals, across 9,643 barangays in 16 regions affected by the disaster.

Currently, 171,786 families are taking refuge in 9,014 evacuation centers, while an additional 84,524 families are receiving aid outside these centers. The devastation caused by Uwan extends to infrastructure, with 41,202 houses reported damaged. Of these, 33,882 homes are partially damaged, while 7,320 have been completely destroyed.
